Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy or seeking psychological support can bring up many questions, particularly if it's your first time. Below, I've answered some of the most common questions about my services, therapeutic approach and practical arrangements.
If you have a question that isn't covered here, you're always welcome to get in touch.
-
You don't need a diagnosis or a clear understanding of your difficulties to seek therapy. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, past trauma or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy can provide a supportive space to explore your experiences. An initial consultation can help us consider your needs and whether my approach is appropriate for you.
-
Our initial 50-minute consultation is an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore your current difficulties and consider your therapeutic goals. I may ask questions about your background, experiences and wellbeing to develop an initial understanding of your needs. There is no pressure to share everything at once, and you're welcome to ask questions throughout.
-
Confidentiality is fundamental to my practice. Everything you share is treated with care and respect, in accordance with professional ethical frameworks and relevant data protection requirements. There are certain limits to confidentiality, particularly where safeguarding concerns, serious risks of harm or legal obligations arise. These will be explained clearly before therapy begins.
-
The number of sessions depends on your individual circumstances, the difficulties you're experiencing and what you would like to achieve. Some people benefit from shorter-term, focused CBT, while others may require more ongoing support. We will discuss your therapeutic goals together and regularly review your progress, adapting our approach to your needs.
-
Yes. I offer individual psychological therapy online, providing a flexible and accessible way to receive professional support from a private, comfortable environment. Sessions are delivered with the same attention to confidentiality, clinical responsibility and collaborative therapeutic care as in-person therapy. We will discuss whether online therapy is appropriate for your circumstances before beginning.
-
I kindly request at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment. Late cancellations or missed sessions may incur a charge in accordance with the agreed cancellation policy.
You are also welcome to discuss pausing or ending therapy at any time. If you have purchased a block of sessions, unused sessions may be held as credit towards future appointments, subject to agreed terms, clinical suitability and applicable consumer rights.
